Find the nearest defibrillator to help save a life

The UW community can help save a life by knowing where automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are located in University buildings before a sudden cardiac arrest occurs. PulsePoint provides a map of AED locations and a free app that allows smartphone users to easily find AEDs at UW locations.

Department administrators and building coordinators can maximize the accessibility of their existing AED by doing the following:

  1. Register your AED with Environmental Health & Safety.
  2. Notify personnel and building occupants of AED locations.
  3. Encourage personnel to download the PulsePoint app and locate the nearest AED.

View AED locations

Download the PulsePoint AED app for your smartphone to view AED locations throughout the United States and Canada. It includes basic information such as hours of operation, specific location, and even a photo of the AED if available.

Environmental Health & Safety maintains an inventory of AEDs on the Seattle campus. Use the PulsePoint app or contact us to locate the AED nearest your work location.

Register an existing AED

When your existing AED is registered with PulsePoint, callers to 9-1-1 can be notified of the AED’s location, which can help save a life.

Contact Environmental Health & Safety to register an existing AED or confirm it is in the University’s inventory. We will register the AED with PulsePoint and with local emergency response agencies.

By contributing to this effort to make AED locations available to both PulsePoint and local authorities, those responding to a cardiac event will quickly be able to locate the nearest AED.

What is an AED?

AEDs are electronic devices designed to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and treat them with an electrical therapy shock that allows the heart to reestablish its proper rhythm. Modern AEDs are designed to administer the shock only if an abnormal rhythm is detected and will prompt the user with step-by-step audible or visual cues.
