Hexavalent Chromium Exposure Control for Welders Online
Intended Audience
This course is required for University personnel who weld and may be exposed to hexavalent chromium at or above the action level as defined by Washington State workplace safety and health rule. Welders may be exposed to fumes when performing “hot work” such as welding, brazing, or torch cutting stainless steel or other chromium-containing metals. Training is required initially, and personnel must retake this course when there are changes in the workplace that may result in new or additional exposures to hexavalent chromium, changes in the types of protective equipment or work practices used to control exposure, or if the employee has not retained the necessary understanding and skills to safely handle hexavalent chromium.
Description
The course teaches about sources of occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium in welding, health effects associated with over exposure to hexavalent chromium while welding, and steps that can be taken to reduce exposure.
Learners must complete Globally Harmonized System for Hazard Communication Online prior to taking this course.
